The Spanish Network of Theatres, Auditoriums and Public Title Circuits (Red Española de Teatros, Auditorios y Circuitos de Titularidad Pública, or RED) is a non-profit cultural organisation created in February, 2000, as part of a collaboration agreement with the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (INAEM) [Instituto Nacional de las Artes Escénicas y de la Música], under the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sport.
The RED has 134 members, including 123 theatres and auditoriums and 11 regional circuits or networks from Spain's autonomous communities, which together incorporate over 450 public stages and venues.
back to topThe General Assembly is the supreme body which, through deliberations and votes, determines how the association is run and organised. It is made up of representatives, or delegates, from the governing bodies of the public institutions that manage the theatres, auditoriums, circuits and networks that are members of the organisation.
The Board of Directors is composed of a chairman, deputy chairman, secretary, treasurer and up to five board members, none of whom receive payment for their duties. The General Assembly elects the members of the board, and these members decide each person's role on the Board of Directors. The board members' positions are each tied to the public institution which they represent on the General Assembly. Thus, when an individual's position as representative of a public institution on the General Assembly comes to an end, he or she also loses his or her position on the Board of Directors. The vacancy is filled according to the organisation's statutes.
The Board of Directors represents, coordinates and manages the organisation according to the powers conferred by the Statutes and the duties entrusted to it by the General Assembly. The Board organises its responsibilities as it deems best to achieve maximum efficiency.
This department is made up of non-directive professionals who handle a range of administration duties for the organisation.

This committee is made up of representatives from the Autonomous Circuits and Networks that are members of the RED. The committee has three basic goals:
1. Gathering Information.
This includes periodical updates of information on the autonomous circuits and networks as part of the RED's commitment to provide this information to the performing arts sector, particularly performance companies and producers.
2. Creating a common framework for the Redescena website.
This includes listing each circuit's plans and activities on the website and identifying those that the circuits have in common; analyzing the potential benefits of transferring or sharing this information for the circuits or for Redescena; relaying the information technology the circuits use for their data bases and websites; and, creating an aggregate data base system.
3. Exchanging performance reviews.
Each member of the committee creates a list of recommended performances, which since 2003 includes over 400 different theatre, music, dance and all-age events.

Any public performing arts venue or circuit can join the RED provided it meets the following requisites:
1. It has a person permanently in charge of programming.
2. Its technical infrastructure is capable of holding professional performances.
3. It has a steady performance programme.
4. It has the capacity to seat at least 250.
5. Its request is approved by the General Assembly.
The RED is an organisation that works for the interests of its members. Its main role is to coordinate initiatives undertaken by members to improve the performing arts sector in Spain.
Redescena.net offers information on all of the performances available for tour in the country, including dates, prices, cast, technical data and more. It also features an administration area, a discussion forum, e-mail service, etc. The web page also offers information on member stages and venues, and any news of interest to the sector such as festivals, publications, official announcements, etc.
Members can carry out their own performing arts projects. The first tour organised between member stages was "Música a Escena" ("Music on Stage"), a six-performance programme conceived to help classical music reach different audiences.
Members can attend conferences organised by the RED or by other organizations, with special fees for our members.
Free access to a legal team for matters relating to the performing arts sector.
At the Assemblies, which are often held during festivals and fairs, members can exchange experiences on technical matters and enjoy visits by experts on issues regarding stage management.
The RED is increasing its presence in both European and Latin American forums, with plans to attend festivals and fairs abroad with the aim to both promote Spanish productions and view performances that may be of interest to our members at home.
back to topThe RED acts as a liaison between performance programmers and distributors or managers, whose proposals are listed on the Redescena website.
In addition, the Theatre, Music and Dance Committee provides updates on the current performance scene and has a quality-based "Recommends Shows" list.
Sector professionals such as actors, musicians, directors, choreographers, stage crew or anyone related to the performance sector can publish their information on the web's directory by registering at Redescena.
back to topRedescena.net was created in 2001 to modernize the RED's administration systems and put them on line.
back to topThis online site has a page open to the public with information on the performing arts sector, as well as a private virtual office which can be accessed by members through personal identification codes. The virtual office provides sector professionals with all necessary information regarding their different areas of work.
Redescena's website offers information on the following:
On the private virtual office, members have access to an administration area where they can access documents regarding the RED's activities, a discussion forum, email, details on new performing arts proposals listed on the web, etc. Members can also express their opinions on different proposals and get in touch directly with the performance companies or distributors.
